"Fun in the Sun Where the Mice Will Run" by Lauren

Me and Aiden were on the couch and Aiden was on top of me while he was sleeping.  Aiden got all hot against my body because he was sweating.  Aiden looked like a couch potato.  He was drooling.  And snoring.  And moving.  I think I'm even getting tired while I tell you this (lying down with Aiden makes you really tired).

It looks like I'm doing a back flip.  Ciala was looking at the water in the air.  There was a lot of water all over the place and Kona liked it.  My hair looks like I got electrocuted.

Ciala made a great big poster for Girls' Night (+ Aiden).  I helped her with taping and what the pattern was.

We made Claire's birthday presents handmade.  Not to brag, but they look like they're from the store, thanks.  The beads almost fell everywhere.  Later on, when Meg vacuumed she heard all the beads clicking.

I got my poker face on.  I hope Dad's not looking at my notes.  Aiden is looking back at the fridge looking for some food.

Help! Help! Baby on me!

Can you do this?

Girls' Night is awesome!

I hope Claire liked my present.

Poker Face!

"Water Fun!" By Ciala

I love it when daddy sprays me and Lauren. It's always so much fun. when me and Lauren do flips we can only land on our bottoms. But we still have fun!

"I believe I can fly"

"5 6 7 8"

"victory!" (I don't really know what for)

"My Part of Girls' Night" By Ciala

Well first of all I found some streamer from my belated birthday here in North Carolina.
So I wanted to use it so I could hang it down from my doorway, but I didn't have enough. Then I got an idea ,I thought that I could use it for decorations on Girls' Night! I decorated the bonus room in purple streamer. It all looked so cool! I put streamer down the stairs Daddy even liked it! I also spun  it around the handrail! Also I found a huge piece of cardboard and I made a huge sign![so cool] It was a fun but not for Aiden.

Time has been flying and we cannot believe it's already nearing the end of June!  We were especially excited,  yesterday, when Uncle Joe and Aunt Carla McLernan went out of their way to come visit us, as they traveled down from Philadelphia (for Great-Uncle Bob and Great-Aunt Jean's 50th Wedding Anniversary) back to Florida.  We had a wonderful visit.  The girls thought they were "really fun people" and had a blast when Uncle Joe jumped on the trampoline with them.  Aiden was right at home in Aunt Carla's arms, and Kona enjoyed all the extra attention.

Girls' Night (+ Aiden) was a success.  We watched one too many movies, ate far too many snacks, and stayed up way too late.  The next day everyone needed naps--Clyde, after all night on duty, and the rest of us from partying too hard.  Clyde, exhausted from working 24 hours and excited to be home with his family, was only slightly disheartened when Lauren asked Clyde when he had duty again.

For Father's Day, we made chocolate and peanut butter chip pancakes for breakfast.  The girls made cards for Dad, with Lauren making an extra on behalf of Aiden, and Ciala taking the time to fashion one to represent Kona's daughterly love.  Ciala also made oatmeal cookies with walnuts, just for Dad.  Lauren made Dad his own iPad (he had bought one for me last week, so she wanted him to have his own!).

We decided on Family game night to keep the Father's Day party going.  One of our favorite things to do for "Family Game Night" is to play Clue.  For me, it is also nostalgic, as it is one of the games I most remember my family playing for "Family Game Night" when I was growing up.  Ciala is especially methodical at her investigating, and is always up for a round.  Lauren has fun, but does not embrace the note-taking, as she is a spontaneous girl.  Thus, she prefers to trust her hunches as she predicts whodunit.  Often times, she teams up with her Dad, and we all try to remind her not to say too much (and give away her info).  It's a blast.

Another girlhood activity the girls have allowed me to share with them is making jewelry.  Courtesy of Mom Lyons, we have a beautiful variety of beads and supplies, and love to make necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and such.  The girls decided to make a few items for cousin Claire ("Peanut") for her 4th birthday, so we slipped it inside her little purse and sent it on to Colorado.  Happy Birthday, Claire!

Friday night Mom and Dad Lyons are coming through on their way back from Philadelphia (50th Wedding Anniversary Uncle Bob & Aunt Jean McLernan), and Pittsburgh (we love you, Grandma & Grandpap Valentine!).  Ciala's hoping they'll be up for a round or two of Clue!

The scene is set... Who killed Mr. Boddy?

Team Clyde-Clyde-Lauren consults their notes before making a prediction.

Ciala blows on the die, hoping for a "6".

Aiden is fascinated by his Great-Aunt's and Great-Uncle's hands.

Happy Father's Day

Clyde and I are so grateful for the strong, righteous examples set for us by our fathers.  Today we celebrate them and their roles in the lives of their children.

Dad Lyons (with Mom) in 1977 or 1978, before children came along.

Dad takes us out to a ballgame to cheer on his Pittsburgh Pirates (Dad, Mom, Colin, Meg, Grandma & Tara) in 1993 or so.

I took this photo as Mom, Colin and I welcomed Dad home from a trip to the Middle East in the early 2000s.

The roles reversed a few years later (early 2008), when Colin graduated from 3rd Recruit Training Battalion in Parris Island, South Carolina.  Dad had been a Series Commander in the very same battalion in the late 1970s.

Dad sees me off on my way to Fallujah in mid 2007.

Dad McBride holds a young Clyde (Tyler) way up high.

Dad, Clyde and Grandpa McBride go for a ride in October 1982.

Dad and Clyde in 1988 or 1989.

Clyde and Dad enjoy a beautiful day on the Mesa in July 2010.

Clyde took this photo of Dad during a most enjoyable ride (they took me along!) in July 2010.

Christmas in June?

We decided that, regardless of season, we would tackle a puzzle left under our tree by Santa last December 25th.  Though teamwork was crucial, Lauren and I each concede that Ciala was the dominant force bringing these 500 pieces together.

Getting started...

The framework is laid...

Tons of progress...

Completion! (Dogs adorned with wreaths and Santa hats).

Another activity reminiscent of colder weather was baking pumpkin bread.  It's one of our favorites and we had all the ingredients on hand so we decided to go for it!

Lauren gets us cracking...

While Ciala tends to sleepy Aiden...

Finished and ready to eat!

Clyde has duty on base today, so he posts at 0800 and is relieved at 0759.  We miss him, but decided to make the most of it by having a Girls' Night (+ Aiden).  My co-authors will tell you all about it, soon!  Aiden is not happy about the house's gender ratio today.  Our friend Kristi and her pup are stopping by... counting the dogs that's 6 girls and only 1 little boy!

Aiden keeps himself busy...

"Daddy, please hurry home!"

"Messing With Aiden" by Lauren

Aiden made a lot of honey mustard.  I shouldn't have patted his butt.

I looked at Aiden weird when we touched hands.

When I jumped on the trampoline, it looked like I was a GIANT because I jumped up.

We were both looking at the fan.  Aiden didn't get why it was going in circles.

"When I Got Here" by Ciala

Me and Lauren got here (I think) around 10:00.As a greeting Aiden threw up on me as soon as I picked him up. Meghan wasn't in the room and when she came back I told her about the greeting. I had to change out of my clothes. But Aiden is very interested in me. He looked at my glasses and was distracted by them, that meant Meg was able to cut all his nails at once! Meghan said it was probably the first time she did that. And when Aiden is fussy I distract him with my hands. He thinks it's so cool. But all I do is move my fingers in a weird way. Well I try my best.

Waiting for Rain and Youthful Perspectives

Ciala and Lauren are here!  We decided it would be fun to have the girls post their own commentary describing our summer activities.  Though our first posts are comprised of photos from only the first day and a half, we've been keeping quite busy!

The girls donned their aprons, and Lauren kept Aiden busy...

so that I could assist Ciala with our pancake breakfast.

Lauren uses the demonstration method to instruct Aiden in tummy time.

The summer heat and recent lack of rain create thirst in girls, dogs, and plants alike...
Wet trampoline jumping helps!

Kona begged to join in...

And she begged...

So Clyde finally agreed!

Clyde caught some great moves on film, like Ciala's rockstar guitar.

And Lauren's skater girl.

Lauren touches the treetops.

And Ciala pauses to give us a sweet smile.

Ciala poses with Kona (not an easy task).

After a driving lesson, Lauren is unleashed (in the backyard).
